Nine people, including two children, have been abducted by gunmen at Anguwar Kwankwashe in Suleja, Suleja local government area of Niger state.
The Madalla Divisional Police Officer (DPO) Adamu Mohammed, confirmed the incident but refused to speak further.
However, a resident of the area told 21st CENTURY CHRONICLE that the gunmen, numbering about 30 people stormed the area around 1am on Tuesday and invaded some houses and a hotel where they whisked away their victims.
He said members of the vigilante and some police operatives later came to the area and engaged the kidnappers in a gun battle, but the gunmen were able to escape with their victims.
The state Police Command is yet to issue an official statement on the incident.
