Few hours after the state government imposed curfew on local government areas, bandits suspected to be loyal to Turji attacked a police outpost and killed an officer in Gurbin Bore, Zamfara state.
Multiple sources including Abdullahi Yusuf confirmed the attack to the 21st CENTURY CHRONICLE, adding that the assailants have also attacked travelers and carted away 50 bags of rice.
Mr. Yusuf said before the bandits attacked the police outpost, they barricaded the road from Gurbin Bore to Gidan Jaja, where they killed a driver.
“After killing the driver, they took away the 50 bags of rice he was transporting. After that, they moved and blocked Bakon Gebe to Zurmi. Our vehicle, while we were going to Bakon Gebe, was involved but we were not attacked because they took two people; a driver and a passenger from the commercial vehicle in our front.” He said.
Another source, who pleaded anonymity, said that they attacked the police outpost to instill fear in the “vibrant police men in Gurbin Bore.”
The source said the police outpost was attacked because “whenever there is an attack by bandits, the policemen at the outpost move in to repel it.”
“As I speak to you (Wednesday night), many people have fled Gurbin Bore due to an attack currently ongoing in the village. Many people are reported to have fled to some communities in Niger Republic,” he said.
The police spokesperson, SP Mohammed Shehu, didn’t respond to calls and SMS sent to him.
