At least 10 people have been confirmed dead by villagers after bandits attacked Dan Kumeji community in Kankara local government area in Katsina state.
Kankara is famous for the abduction of over 300 students of Government Science Secondary School Kankara in December 2020.
Malam Basiru Abu, a local who lives in Kankara, told 21st CENTURY CHRONICLE that the gunmen stormed the village around 12am Thursday night.
“Immediately they came, they started shooting sporadically. When they finished the shooting, they also kidnapped some of our people, especially women,” he said.
He said nine people were killed by bandits while the tenth one died Friday morning due to hypertension following the scare caused by the attack.
“They’ve just finished the burial of ten people while seven more people have returned from the bush. They were among those who got scared during the attack,” Basiru said.
He said they’ve so far counted 26 people who have not been accounted for but stressed that they believe some people have run into the bush during the attack.
The police spokesperson in the state, SP Gambo Isa, was not available for comment as at the time of filing in this report.
