Bandits have killed a Divisional Police Officer in Magama, Jibia local government area of Katsina state in a fresh attack.
The assailants reportedly ambushed the security agents Wednesday morning.
The slain DPO was simply identified as DSP Rano.
A source said the bandits stormed Magama, which is not far from the Niger Republic border around 3am on Wednesday.
He said the Divisional Police Officer led a team of police men to the scene to repel the attack.
The source said while security agents were on the way to the scene of the attack, some bandits stationed on the road ambushed the two vehicles and started shooting sporadically.
“The DPO died instantly while some of the police officers got wounded. An army officer, who is in charge of the soldiers stationed in Jibia was also in the convoy. He escaped with gunshots,” he said.
21st CENTURY CHRONICLE reports that the wounded soldier, addressed by locals in the area as Masoyi, has been hospitalized in Katsina.
The police command spokesperson, SP Gambo Isa, confirmed the attack and the subsequent killing of the DPO. He, however didn’t provide details of the attack.
