Three people including a member of the Katsina State owned Community Watch Corps have been killed in separate attacks by bandits in the weekend.
Another official of the Community Watch Corps was also injured and is now receiving treatment.
21 Century Chronicles gathers from local sources that the bandits, in a daring attack, stormed Dangani community in Musawa area of the state around 5:00pm and attacked a mini base belonging to the CWC officials in the state prompting a gunfight.
“When they rode into the community, they went straight to the place where the C – Watch officials are stationed. Upon sighting them, the C – Watch officials fired back,” a community leader, who asked not to be named for security reasons, told 21 Century Chronicles over the phone on Sunday.
The slain C – Watch official, Anas Yushau Ayuba, was said to have fiercely engaged the bandits but they had more fire power. “He stood his ground and we appreciate his efforts. May his rest in peace.”
His rifle was taken away by the bandits before they fled from the village.
Bandits also killed two brothers on Saturday during an attack on Sabon Gidan Soro in Malumfashi area.
The brothers, Hamza Aliyu and Saidu Aliyu were killed by the bandits during a sporadic shooting when the bandits stormed the community on motorcycles.
Few minutes before he was killed, Saidu Aliyu sought prayers against the bandits from the public in a Facebook post.
“May Allah protect us (from bandits) but there is a serious problem.” He posted on Facebook.
Before that last post, an hour before he was killed, Saidu Aliyu had posted that bandits and security agents were exchanging fire around Burdugau and prayed for the success of the soldiers.
“It was the same group of bandits that were chased away by soldiers from Burdugau that circled back into Gidan Soro and killed the duo,” Mustapha Karfi told 21 Century Chronicles on Sunday.
Musawa and Malumfashi areas are among the local government areas in Katsina State that have an existing deal with bandits’ groups to cease hostilities. Despite the agreements, 21 Century Chronicles reports that several of the areas continue to witness series of attacks by bandits.
The police spokesman in the state, Abubakar Sadik Aliyu didn’t respond to an SMS sent to him on the attacks as at the time of filing the report.
