Bandits have killed the Registrar of Shari’a Court, Ibbi, Malam Namaru, in Mashegu LGA of Niger State two weeks after his abduction.
Namaru was kidnapped with others on March 24, 2023, when the bandits invaded their community.
The Niger State Police Command was yet to react to the development up till the time of filing this report.
But a local of the area, Abdullahi Abubakar, said the registrar and other abductees were killed due to pressure from security operatives to rescue them, adding that a vigilante member was also shot dead in the process.
He said effort was ongoing to retrieve the remains of those killed for burial and rescue those still alive, adding that Ibbi which was considered safer and had accommodated fleeing internally displaced persons from other communities had, in the last two weeks, come under attacks.
Bandits attacked Kasuwan-Garba in the same Local Government Area on Monday and kidnapped an unspecified number of people.
A resident, Suleiman Mohammed, said, “The situation in our area is very scary. We live in fear every day because each time they strike; they must kidnap people.”
