Bandits have killed one of the two Catholic Priests they kidnapped in Kaduna on Friday.
Rev. Fr. John Cheitnum and Rev. Fr. Donatus Cleopas were abducted on Friday at the rectory of Christ the King Catholic Church, Yadin Garu, in Lere Local Government Area of the state.
The death was confirmed in a statement by the Catholic Diocese of Kafanchan, Rev. Fr Emmanuel Uchechukwu Okolo on Tuesday.
He said Rev. Chietnum was killed, while Rev. Cleopas escaped from the kidnappers’ den.
Until his death, Mr Chietnum was the Chairman of Christian Association of Nigeria in Jema’a Local Government Area of the state.
The decomposing body of the priest was discovered on Tuesday, according to the statement.
The priest was killed on the same day he was kidnapped, it was learned.
The church called on all and sundry to refrain from taking the law into their hands.
The slain priest would be buried at the Cathedral of St. Peter Kafanchan by 10 am.
