At least four people have been confirmed dead with eight others severely injured after bandits attacked Kucheri and Lango villages in Zamfara State during simultaneous attacks on Tuesday night.
Local sources told 21st CENTURY CHRONICLE that two people were killed and other injured in Kucheri, a community in Tsafe area while two were killed and eight others injured in Lango, a village under Bungudu area.
“We tried to repel the attack on our village, in fact, it was the efforts of our people and the security agents that made the bandits retreat after the gunfight,” a youth leader who asked not to be named, said.
“During the gunfight, two of our youth were injured. This morning, while surveying the area, we found two dead bodies of our friends, Bashar Dan Hutu and Musa Isiya riddled with bullets.”
He said when the bandits were sighted approaching the community, security agents were alerted while vigilante group members and other armed residents picked their guns and engaged the bandits.
“We need sophisticated weapons to confront them. We’ll continue to make efforts but they have superior weapons while we have dane guns.”
Kucheri is a community on the Funtua – Gusau highway. The community is one of the most vulnerable communities to bandits’ attacks in the state.
In Lango, 21st CENTURY CHRONICLE reports that the deceased have been buried according to the islamic rites while the injured six residents have been taken to the hospital for medical attention.
