Bandits have killed at least eleven persons and kidnapped 117 others after invading Danmuntari village in Danko-Wasagu Local Government Area in Kebbi State.
Survivors revealed that the attack took place in the evening of Tuesday May 27, 2025, adding that among those killed were a nursing mother and her infant child less than two weeks old.
The survivors said the bandits shot sporadically at the woman and her child and the others when they attacked the community, according to BBC Hausa on Thursday.
A local revealed that “the gunmen arrived the town around 4 pm, surrounded the village and shot sporadically forcing the villagers to run helter skelter as some of them fell to stray bullets from the bandits’ gun shots.
“Very pitifully, there was a woman who gave birth less than two weeks ago who was killed along with her child.”
One of the locals, who escaped the attack to a nearby village called Baina, told the BBC that members of the community were preparing to go to the farms when suddenly the gun men appeared from different directions atop motorcycles.
“They came in through east, west, north and south directions and started shooting. They kidnapped 117 locals and killed a nursing mother and her child and nine others.”
“We did not get any kind of help or assistance from any authority.
“We have never received any kind of help from security agencies to ensure we are protected in this community. There was no sign of help from the authorities, no one confronted the gunmen during the attack and nobody has said anything to us.”
He said since the last attack which he could not recall when, members of the community started leaving the village with some heading to Zamfara and others to Kebbi the state capital.
The locals recalled that the latest attack is the third one on the village, adding that the bandits always come in large numbers riding on motorcycles to harass and kill them.
As at the time of filing this report, there has been no official statement neither from the state government nor the state police command.
