Bandits have killed seven persons and abducted five women in attacks on two villages of Faskari local government area in Katsina state.
Lawal Mamman, a native of the area, who lives in Katsina told this reporter that the attackers stormed the villages Tuesday night.
“They operated from around 9pm to the early morning hours in the Unguwar Ibrahim Maiwada before they went to Kanon Haki along the Zaria – Sokoto highway. My brother told me that he has seen the corpses of the five people killed in Kanon Haki while several others were injured,” he said in a telephone interview.
He said the number of those who died has risen to 11 because six vigilante members were feared killed while trying to confront the bandits, but he said he couldn’t confirm their death.
In Unguwar Ibrahim Maiwada, an unnamed source said two people were killed while five women were taken captive and taken to the bush.
“What we learnt from the vigilante members that followed them was that they (bandits) divided themselves into two. While some returned to Kanon Haki to launch an attack, others went into the bush with the five abducted women,” he said.
The Katsina police command spokesperson, SP Gambo Isa, couldn’t be reached for comments.
