At least 20 residents have been killed when bandits attacked Bunkasau, a community in Bukkuyum local government of Zamfara State on Friday.
21st CENTURY CHRONICLE gathers that most of those killed were young men.
Residents of Tungar Dutsi in the neighboring Anka local government spotted a large number of bandits on over 20 motorcycles yesterday evening.
“They made frantic efforts to alert other communities. Unknown to us, the bandits were aiming to attack Bunkasau,” a youth leader in Bukkuyum town, who asked not to be named, said. “The bandits crossed the main road without them being stopped by security agents untill they reached Bunkasau.”
Another local source said the bandits blocked entry and exits of the community during the attack.
“We’ve a group of vigilante group members and they tried to repel the attack but how many are they? And they don’t have the weapons to confront the bandits.
“Yesterday, we discovered nine dead bodies while we discovered 11 today. Several other people have also been injured,” the source who also asked not to be named for security reasons said.
The police spokesman in the state Yazid Abubakar didn’t respond to SMS and WhatsApp messages sent to him over the attack while his number was unreachable.
