Two officers of the Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS) have been killed in Katsina when bandits attacked their checkpoint Wednesday night.
21st CENTURY CHRONICLE findings show that the ambush took place in Kadode checkpoint along Jibia road leading to Niger Republic.
Checks by this reporter showed that the attack took place around 12am.
The slain officers were identified as Umar Bagadaza Kankara and Lauwali Jigawa.
The public relations officer of the service in Katsina, S.I Kasim Iliyasu, promised to seek for clearance and revert.
But an NIS officer, who pleaded for anonymity, confirmed the attack to our reporter.
The officer said soldiers helped the NIS officers to repel the bandits, leading to the death of some of the bandits.
“Two of our officers have been killed while a soldier is wounded,” he said.
Malam Hassan Kankara, a relation of Mr. Umar told this reporter that they have been notified of the death of their son.
“As I speak to you, our representatives are on their way to Katsina to meet with officials of the service. We’ve been informed that he was killed by gunmen yesterday (Wednesday) night.”
