Fifteen people have been killed in bandits’ attack on Binnari and Jab-Jab villages in Karim Lamido local government area of Taraba State.
A security source told 21st CENTURY CHRONICLE that the bandits attacked the two villages in retaliation for the killing of seven bandits by vigilantes in the area some weeks ago. He said the bandits who survived the attack escaped with the corpses of their gang members, but made a comeback on Wednesday after they had mobilized.
The source said the bandits numbering about 50 stormed Binnari around 4 am on Wednesday, and overpowered the villagers who attempted to fight back.
He said the village head of Binnari and some local guards were killed by bandits early this year.
He said the bandits set ablaze many houses during the retaliatory attack on the two communities on Wednesday.
Spokesperson of Taraba Police Command, Usman Abdullahi, who confirmed the incident, said officers had been deployed in the area to restore normalcy.
He said the police were yet to get the casualty figure from the incident.
