Bandits have attacked a joint military base located at Dama village in Sokoto state on Friday, killing at least 14 security officials.
This newspaper gathered that about 50 security operatives were in the camp when the bandits struck.
A local resident of the area told our correspondent that some of the personnel were still missing.
Another source said that among the operatives killed were three officials of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps.
The source said two military patrol vehicles were burnt by the attackers.
Commissioner for Careers and Security Matters, Garba Moyi, has confirmed the attack.
“It is true that there was an attack on our security operatives,” he said on Sunday.
He explained that “there are casualties which I cannot give you their number.”
However, the spokespersons of the Army, Police and the NSCDC, Major Yahaya Ngulde, Hamza and ASP Sanusi Abubakar, have all claimed ignorance of the attack.
