Ten members of vigilante group have been killed by bandits in Sakuwa village in Rabah local government area of Sokoto state.
21st CENTURY CHRONICLE learnt that, the vigilantes were ambushed while trying to repel the attack.
The spokesman of the Sokoto Police Command, Sanusi Abubakar, confimed the incident.
He said the attack took place around 1pm on Sunday.
“The bandits attacked Yartsakuwa village in Gandi district of Rabah local government area at about 1pm on Sunday,” Abubakar said.
” Members of the community notified the police about the attack but before they came some vigilantes had rushed to the area who were ambushed by the bandits.
“When our men arrived the scene they had already lost 10 of their members but we succeeded in repelling the attack.”
However, a resident of the area told our correspondent the casualty were more than 10.
“I counted about 15 bodies before i left the village,” our source said.
“We have been warning vigilantes in the state to stop going after bandits without the support of the police or army because of they have superior power over them,” the police spokesperson said.
