Bandits have abducted the Sarkin Yamman Kaura Namoda, Alhaji Ibrahim Dan Auta, Sunday morning, in Zamfara State.
The 76 years old traditional ruler is the district head of Sabon Gari who oversees communities like Kungurki, Dayau and others.
Residents of the ancient town told the 21st CENTURY CHRONICLE over the phone that the residence of the traditional ruler, located in the Low-cost area, is not far from a military base.
“The bandits, knowing that they’re soldiers around the area, rarely fire shots. They mostly keep their motorcycles not far from Low-cost and walk into the area,” a resident, Bello Musa, told this reporter on Monday.
“This abduction has thrown the town into confusion. I think the soldiers need to do more. Maybe to increase surveillance on the road because it was only when they abducted him that they started shooting into the air,” he said.

Another resident Aminu Muhammad expressed concerns over the abduction of the traditional ruler.
“His house is close to a military checkpoint, I wonder how it was possible for the bandits to abduct him but the soldiers couldn’t rescue him. He is an old man, a respected traditional title holder, it means no one is safe,” he said.
Kaura Namoda town is one the local government headquarters that have witnessed cases of bandits going into the town to abduct or kill residents.
Following the abduction, 21st CENTURY CHRONICLE reports that the acting chairman of Kaura Namoda, Sharahu Almajir met with representatives of security agents in the local government area.
The police spokesman in the state, DSP Yazid Abubakar didn’t respond to SMS and WhatsApp messages sent to him over the abduction.
