Scores of locals have been abducted at Kurmaci community in Danko-Wasagu Local Government Area of Kebbi State 24 hours after 24 schoolgirls were rescued
The kidnappers, numbering over 30, reportedly stormed the community on Wednesday night while residents were asleep and scores of people were abducted, while many others sustained injuries.
It would be recalled that the 24 schoolgirls rescued on Tuesday were abducted from the same area, and days before their release, over 40 others were reportedly taken from communities in the local government area.
An local, Aliyu Dan Galadima, said the latest incident marked the third attack on the community within one month.
“We have been attacked repeatedly by bandits. Some of our people were killed, while those abducted are yet to be released,” he said.
He said days before the incident, scores of people were kidnapped at Gandun Wasagu, another community in the local government area.
“This is one of the many attacks we have witnessed here. It is unfortunate that this area has become a major target for bandits. We call on the government to station security operatives in the area so our people can go about their daily activities in peace,” he said.
Kurmaci, Gandun Wasagu, and Bena communities have faced several invasions due to their locations.
They are located along the border between Zamfara and Kebbi states and are situated on major bandit routes from the Zamfara and Niger axis.
