Bandits have reportedly kidnapped over 80 villagers around Wanzamai village in Tsafe local government area of Zamfara state.
The attack happened on Friday, it was learned.
21st CENTURY CHRONICLE gathered that the bandits made several attempts to attack the village, but they were repelled by the military operatives deployed to the area.
One of the villagers who spoke on condition of anonymity told our reporter that the bandits lost four of their men during one of their encounters with the military.
“They came to invade the village but were subdued by the military who killed four of their men.
“This prompted the bandits to mobilize their colleagues from Munhaye, Magazu and other surrounding bandits enclaves and came back to avenge the killing of their men.
“When they realized they could not match the military fighting power, they kept vigil at the surrounding bushes and abducted farmers who went to clear their farms in preparation of the raining season.
“They also kidnapped women and children who went to fetch firewoods,” our source said.
According to the source, over 80 persons were abducted by the assailants.
The villagers were from Wanzamai, Kecheri, Unguwar Chida and Yankara.
All effort to reach out to the spokesperson of the Zamfara Police Command, CSP Shehu Muhammad, proved abortive as his phone was switched off as at the time of filing this report.
