At least 11 people were abducted and two people injured in a bandits’ attacks in Yar Kufoji village of Bakura area in Zamfara State on Friday.
Local sources told 21 Century Chronicles that one of those injured was a member of the state owned Zamfara State Community Protection Guards.
The attackers drove into the community around 12am Friday morning, shooting sporadically, local sources said.
“The CPG members stationed in the community fired back and for a more we thought the CPG would overpower the bandits but they had more numbers,” a resident of Yar Kufoji, who asked not to be named for security reasons, told 21 Century Chronicles through phone.
The bandits, according to the source, withdrew but changed route into the community, and injured another man who was standing outside his house.
“They went into some houses and abducted eleven of our people,” the source added. “I personally know three of those abducted all of them family men with children and others dependants.”
He gave the name of three family men abducted as: Malam Abdulkadir Muhammad, Malam Basiru Mahe and Malam Rabiu Maishayi.
The police public relations officer in Zamfara, DSP Yazid Abubakar didn’t respond to a message sent to him over the attack.
Bakura, a local government area that shares boundaries with Raba in Sokoto and Talata Mafara, Maradun, Anka and Shinkafi in Zamfara, is one of the most troubled areas in terms of banditry activities in Zamfara State.
