Suspected bandits have shot dead Alhaji Abu (fondly called Alhaji Abu Shaus), a car dealer in Isa local government area of Sokoto state.
The bandits were said to have stormed his residence around 9pm on Thursday with the intention of kidnapping him for ransom.
“They asked him to follow them which he refused and one of them shot him on the head,” a resident of the area, Kabiru Yusuf, said.
According to him, the car dealer who was also a chieftain of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state died on the spot.
“After killing him, the bandits started shooting sporadically as a result of which three other persons sustained gunshot injuries and are currently receiving treatment in the hospital,” he said.
Yusuf noted that residents of Isa local government have been living in perpetual fear because of the activities of bandits in the area.
“There is never a day that we will not witness abduction or killing in our area.
“Even recently they abducted over 20 persons, some were released after the payment of ransoms while some are still in captivity,” he lamented.
The attacks were taking place despite the presence of army formation in the area.
He said that the car dealer would be buried today (Friday) at Isa town.
When contacted the spokesman of the Sokoto Police Command, ASP Ahmed Rufa’i, said he was not briefed about the attack by the Isa Divisional Police Officer.
