Bandits have gunned down a senior lawyer, Benedict Tongee Azza, in Gusau, Zamfara state capital in a Thursday night attack.
The lawyer, according to a statement by the Chairman of Gusau Bar Association, Junaidu Abubakar, on Friday morning, was trailed by the assailants to his residence in Unguwar Saminaka, Gusau and gunned him down.
Ther NBA chairman said Mr Azza was shot thrice at close range.
“Information has it that the bandits wanted to kidnap him at his house situated in the Saminaka area but he was able to escape, drove his vehicle and ran to the road side. The gunmen pursued him and shot him dead,” Mr Abubakar said.
He said that he and two other colleagues met the body of the deceased on the roadside after they were informed by some residents before the police took away the corpse.
The chairman said the remains of the deceased have been deposited at the Yariman Bakura Specialist Hospital, Gusau.
