Seven policemen have been killed in bandits ambush near Zonai village in Gusau local government area of Zamfara State.
A security source told 21st CENTURY CHRONICLE that the incident occured on Monday when the policemen when Gusau-Magami-Dansadau road where they had mounted a check point near Zonai village along.
He said the assailants opened fire on the vehicle conveying the security personnel, killing seven of them.
Scores of travellers have been killed or kidnapped along the 50 km Gusau-Magami road.
A resident of Zonai village said the police presence on the road had helped in stabilizing the horrific security situation in this axi, and boasted boosted the confidence of the travellers to ply that road.
Spokesperson of Yariman Bakura Specialist Hospital, Awwal Usman, said the hospital received the corpse policemen around 8am on Tuesday.
However, the Zamfara Police Command is yet to issue an official statement on the incident.
