Bandits have killed one person and injured several others in a separate attack in Madaka community of Niger state.
Reports said two residents, a local vigilante and several persons were abducted during the attacks in Rafi local government area on Friday.
This is coming despite heavy security at Kagara, the local government headquarters, and its environs following the abduction of some students and staff of Government Science College on Wednesday.
The abductees are still in the captivities, as negotiations between government and leaders of the bandits group continue.
The fresh attack, reports said took place at about 2pm when the bandits laid ambush on the villagers going for marriage ceremony along Madaka-Kagara road.
The gunmen also ambushed another set of people returning from Madaka market.
A resident of the community, Yunusa Acha, who confirmed the incident, said one of the escapees informed them of the development.
He said: “The villagers went to Madaka market and on their way coming back, those bandits attacked them along the road and kidnapped them. Nobody knows the actual figure.
“Then, there was another attack like one hour after, against some people carrying their bride to a marriage ceremony along that same route. They were in a bus and the bandits packed all of them. We heard that one person was killed.”
Another resident of the, Zakari Mai said they were yet to identify the number of people that were abducted during the attack,
The Niger State Police Command is yet to respond to the development.
