Kaduna State Governor Nasir el-Rufai says recent incidents of kidnapping of students and pupils of Kaduna schools by bandits do not pose a threat to the state’s education sector.
El-Rufai told the BBC Hausa that unlike other states in the North facing similar security situations that had forced them to close schools, Kaduna state would not shut schools because of bandits.
The gunmen on Monday abducted some pupils and teachers of a UBE primary school in Rama in Birnin Gwari local government areas of the state. This was even as the earlier abducted 39 students of Federal School of Forestry Mechanisation Afaka, are still in the hands of their captors.
El-Rufai had told his colleagues during a high-level stakeholder meeting on security in the state on Tuesday that the state government was under oath that it would not compromise or pay any kind of ransom to the bandits.
