Bandits have blocked highways in Zamfara state for two consecutive days forcing commuters to abandon their journey.
21st CENTURY CHRONICLE gathered from motorists that the bandits blocked the highway from Yankara- Tsafe before Magazu town and operated for three hours.
On Tuesday, they returned to the same highway and blocked Magazu – Kucheri around 11am.
The highway links Zamfara, Sokoto and Kebbi states to the Federal Capital Territory Abuja, Kaduna, the Northeast and the Southern part of the country.
A motorist, Mustapha Sani said motorists have been forced to abandon their journey while others abandoned the vehicles they were traveling in.
“We don’t know what made them (bandits) to stage a return at a time like this. From yesterday to today, these people have blocked road from Magazu to Kucheri for more than four hours and I was told that they abducted some people,” he said.
21st CENTURY CHRONICLE couldn’t confirm whether people were abducted but another passenger, Nura Musa going to Maru from Kaduna said their journey had been stopped.
“Wallahi, I’m in Kucheri junction now waiting for the road to be cleared. We met a road block mounted by the residents who asked us to stop because bandits have blocked the road from Magazu axis. As of now, we’re still waiting because they said soldiers have been informed,” he said.
Several vehicles are still on the road, parked on Kucheri junction waiting for clearance from security agencies.
The police public relations officer in Zamfara, SP Mohammed Shehu, didn’t respond to calls sent to him by this reporter on the attack.
