Bandits have killed two men and injured a bride in an attack on a wedding party in Unguwar Nagunda in Katsina State on Saturday.
Several people both from Unguwar Nagunda and Mabai were abducted during the late evening attack, sources told this newspaper.
Unguwar Nagunda is in Kankara Area of the state, one of the local government areas that have reached an agreement with bandits for negotiation.
Despite the peace deal, 21 Century Chronicles reports that bandits have continued to attack several communities in Kankara and some of the LGAs.
A resident of Mabai, Abubakar Abdullahi Ango, said his mother and her co – wife were among those abducted by the bandits.
“They joined the wedding party from our community Mabai, to escort the bride to her matrimonial home in Unguwar Nagunda,” he said. “While at the grooms house in the village, bandits attacked them and killed two men instantly and injured people.
“Several people especially women have been abducted including my mother and her co wife. We’ve not established how many people have been abducted,” he said.
The police spokesman in the state, Abubakar Sadik’s known phone number was unreachable as at the time of filing in this report. A WhatsApp message sent to him was not responded to.
This is coming at a time the state government is justifying the planned release of 70 arrested bandits as part of a deal for peace in the state.
