Bandits have abducted a wife and two children of a lawmaker representing Bakori at the Katsina State House of Assembly, Dr. Aminu Ibrahim.
The attack, according to multiple sources, took place Saturday night at the legislator’s residence in Kurami village.
Aminu Ibrahim was elected during a bye election last December following the death of the member representing the area who was elected in 2019.
The lawmaker, who has houses in Kurami, Katsina and Sokoto where his wife, a medical doctor works, was once kidnapped some months before he was elected last year.
A family source said N10,000,000 was paid to get him release.
The Saturday’s attack
Isa Sulaiman, a family source, told 21st CENTURY CHRONICLE through phone that the bandits stormed the village around 9pm.
He said the bandits went into the house and started shooting, looking for the lawmaker.
He said: “I had returned from Bakori town then and as soon as I heard that his (lawmaker’s) house was being attacked, I called him. He was, fortunately, in Katsina, so they took his wife and two children.”
He said after the operation, “as I speak to you, a group of vigilante members have launched a search team and they’re already running after the bandits.”
Another source said a neighbor of the lawmaker, Malam Ubaidu Abdulhakim, was shot by the bandits while he was trying to help the family escape.
“He has been rushed to a hospital in the town, Bakori,” he said.
21st CENTURY CHRONICLE gathered that Dr. Aminu Ibrahim, has been one of the vocal lawmakers at the House of Assembly when it comes to discussing insecurity.
Two weeks ago, while members of the House were debating on how to improve the security situation in the state, he accused the security agents of negligence.
SP Gambo Isa, the state police command spokesperson was unavailable for comment as at the time of filing this story.
