Thirteen passengers have been abducted by bandits at Konar Barau village in Rafi local government area of Niger state.
The Commissioner of Police in the state, Monday Kuryas, confirmed the incident on Wednesday.
He said the passengers, mostly fishermen, were on their way to Yenagoa, Beyelsa state on fishing activities, when the incident occurred
He said the driver of 18-seater vehicle with registration number LGT 12 XWX, which was conveying the passengers, Mubarak Idris, an indegene of Kwanawa village, Sokoto State reported the incident at about 3:30pm to the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in Zungeru Police Division.
Kuryas said Idris reported that on getting to Konar Barau sharp bend under Rafi local government area along Tegina — Minna road, suspected bandits in military uniform kidnapped 13 of his passengers and his motor boy.
He said the gunmen also dispossessed the driver with N131,500.
Kuryas said the police had commenced aggressive manhunt for the assailants.
He appealled residents of the area to assist the police with reliable information that could lead to the arrest of the miscreants.
“We are doing everything humanly possible to ensure the protection of lives and property in our area of supervision,” he said.
“All we require from residents is vital intelligence information that could aid the security personnel deployed across the state on movement of dubious characters in their midst for necessary security action.”PPP
