The Kaduna state government says some bandits abandoned 47 cows they had rustled after they sighted troops of Operation Safe Haven advancing towards them around the boundary of Apinbu in Atyap Chiefdom, and Ungwan Pah in Ikulu Chiefdom, both in Zangon Kataf local government area.
The state’s Commissioner Internal Security and Home Affairs, Samuel Aruwan said in a statement that the cows have been taken into the troops’ custody, while investigations proceed on their actual owners.
He also said the troops arrested one Simon Augustine in Kukum Daji, Jema’a local government area, for attempting to rob another resident, Matthew Istifanus, of his motorcycle.
Aruwan said the report by the military revealed that the suspect assaulted his victim in a bid to disable him by hitting him on the forehead with a hammer.
He said the victim is receiving treatment in hospital, while the suspect is in police custody for preliminary investigations.
