Rampaging youths have burnt down the residence of the Commissioner for Security in Sokoto State, retired Colonel Garba Moyi.
The incident happened on Monday in Isa local government area of the state, where the commissioner hails from.
Police said five suspects have been arrested in connection to the incident.
Isa is one of the 14 local government areas of the state where telecommunication networks have been shut down by the state government as part of drastic measures of ending raging banditry.
21st CENTURY CHRONICLE reports that the aggrieved youths also vandalized some vehicles at the palace of the district head of Sabon Birni.
Their action could not be unconnected with the incessant bandits’ attacks in the area.
It was said that the youths went on rampage a few minutes after a stakeholders’ meeting convened by elite of the area began.
The meeting was summoned to discuss the prevailing security situation in Isa and environs.
The youth stormed the venue of the meeting shouting ‘Karya ne,’ thus disrupting the meeting.
“It was from there that they went to the residence of the commissioner and set it on fire before proceeding to the residence of the district head and smashed the glass of his vehicles,” a source said.
When contacted, the security commissioner referred our reporter to the police.
However, the spokesperson of the police command, ASP Sanusi Abubakar, said five suspects were arrested in connection with the crime.
Isa is one of the local government areas plagued by banditry in the state.
