Youths in Katsina, President Buhari’s home state, have defied security agents and continued with a planned protest over unending bandits’ activities in the state and the North-west geopolitical region.
The protest took place at the Muhammadu Dikko Central mosque, which is a few meters away from the emir’s palace.
The protesters also asked the Daura Emirate Council to shelve the planned turbanning of President Muhammadu Buhari’s son, Yusuf Buhari, as Talban Daura.
The emirate council appointed Yusuf a few months ago and scheduled a date for his coronation this month.
The convener of the protest, Bishir Dauda Sabuwar Unguwa, told 21st CENTURY CHRONICLE that no individual is safe in the state and the entire North-west region due to the rising activities of bandits.
“We didn’t come here to disturb anyone or disrupt peace, but what we are saying is that the government should listen to us. Bandits, especially Bello Turji and Halilu Sububu have turned our people in the northwest to slaves in their own communities,” he said.
“We are concerned citizens trying to remind the government of what it should do. Today, no one is safe in the northwest and we think by letting our voices, they may be a change. We, therefore, called on the security agencies in the state and elsewhere to put more effort and be aggressive against bandits.”
Unguwa also said there was no need for the Daura Emirate to hold an event for the coronation of President Buhari’s son.
“We have no problem with an elaborate event, all we are saying is that they should shift the coronation due to the situation of our people. We can’t be mourning and celebrating,” he said.
The Commissioner of Police, Sanusi Buba, who addressed the protesters said they did not follow due process.
