The Nigerian Army has recovered 706 weapons from bandits since the commencement of operation Hadarin Daji in 2018.
The operation covers Sokoto, Kebbi, Zamfara and Katsina states.
Handing over the weapons to the National Center for the Control of Small Arms and Light Weapons on Monday, the General Officer Commanding 8 Division, Sokoto Maj. Gen. Uwem Bassey said the weapons include 203 AK 47 riffles, 410 Dane guns, 71 locally made pistols, 4 Automated Fabricated riffles, 7 G3 riffles, 1 GPMG and 3 sub-machines guns.
Others were 4 FN riffles, 1 light machine gun, 1 pump action riffle and 1 RPG empty canister.
He said the weapons were recovered from different clearance operation in the four states, explaining that the operation was meant to get rid of bandits and other criminal elements.
He solicited for credible information to enable troops bring the menace to a stop.
Receiving the items, the zonal Coordinator of the center in charge of the North-west zone, Air Vice Marshall Mohammed Haruna commended the operation for achieving this feat.
