Gunmen killed two worshippers and abducted others in Sokoto in a renewed attack at Marnona in Wurno local government area last Saturday.
Spokesperson of the Sokoto Police Command, DSP Rufa’i Ahmad announced this, but said information on the e attack was sketchy and promised to get back after obtaining more information from the Divisional Police Officer in change of the area
Ahmed was yet to do so as at the time of filing this report.
However, locals said the bandits attacked the community around 8:30pm when the worshippers were yet to leave the mosque after the Isha’i prayer due to heavy downpour.
“The bandits shot two worshippers. One of them died instantly while the other was rushed to the hospital for treatment but later died.
“We buried him yesterday (Monday),” the anonymous localsaid
According to the locals, the gunmen took away six worshipers.
The residents further called for a stronger security presence in the area, emphasizing that fear of further violence is preventing people from returning to their farms during the harvest season.
The state’s APC Chairman, Isa Sadiq Achida who is from the local government area, however decried incessant attacks on their communities, assuring residents that their government was doing everything possible to address insecurity in the state.
