Gunmen have invaded Kaduna and Federal Capital Territory (FCT) communities and murdered a community leader and kidnapped some family members.
The attacks began on Wednesday night when the terrorists killed the ward head of Gashe community, Mr Philibus Andrew, and seized 13 family members in Kachia LGA of Kaduna State.
According to a local, Musa Bala, the attackers in large number clutching sophisticated weapons stormed around 11pm, adding that they first reached the community leader’s house and killed him.
They then went to a neighbour’s house and kidnapped one Mr Abraham Dangana, his wife, eight children and three relatives.
The gunmen also carted away the contents of shops and chemists.
An anonymous community leader said: “You can imagine that there are security operatives stationed at Bishini Junction, Katari and Nasarawa LEA Primary School, yet the bandits operated for hours without any response from them.”
In another operations, bandits have kidnapped 61 villagers from Budah village in Kajuru Local Government Area of Kaduna State three weeks ago
They murdered five of the abductees.
They released 51 other victims on Tuesday after collecting a ransom as well as drugs and motorcycles
The gunmen are still holding down five abductees demanding for more ransom before they can let go their victims.
An anonymous local vigilante revealed that 51 individuals were freed adding that those killed were men.
According to him, children were among those set free, adding that some could not walk due to the chains on their legs for weeks.
“It was terrible to witness their condition; they suffered greatly, particularly the men,” the vigilante said.
“Among those freed, two individuals sustained gunshot wounds on their legs, causing severe damage as they were not given medical treatment while being held captive.
“They have been taken to a hospital for treatment,” the vigilante added.
The spokesman for the Kaduna State Police Command, SP Hassan Mansur, was yet to make a statement on the development as at press time.
