Former Governors of Sokoto state, Attahiru Bafarawa and Aliyu Wamakko have engaged into another war of words over a purported peace accord.
In an audio message which went viral on social media platforms, Bafarawa was heard accusing Wamakko of refusing to sign a peace accord which he personally initiated at the instance of the Police Commissioner and the Department of State Service in the state.
Bafarawa said, “When I came back and observed how tense the political situation is in the state, I called the commissioner (of Police) and the Director (of DSS) on the need to invite me and Wamakko to sign a peace accord.
“They went to Wamakko and came back to me. But Wamakko refused to turn up. I waited for him till 2pm the following day.
“So, the people of Sokoto can now find out why he did not want to sign the peace accord.”
Wamakko counters Bafarawa
In a swift reaction, Wamakko dismissed Bafarawa’s allegation as a tissue of lies.
Wamakko said,” He (Bafarawa) is a liar and tyrant. There is nothing like that at all.”
“I have come across an audio message credited to Bafarawa which has been trending on social media platforms. In the audio, Bafarawa alleged that he and I were invited by the police and DSS to sign a peace accord.
“I don’t know anything about this. Bafarawa is a liar and tyrant because there was never such a move in the state.
” I wonder why an old man like him can, in a total disregard to his age, sit and orchestrate such a lie.”
Meanwhile, the Sokoto State Police Command and The DSS have disassociated themselves from the purported peace accord.
They, however, advised the two elder statesmen to settle their grievances without distorting the mission of the ongoing consultation which was built in good faith.
