The federal government has earmarked N470 billion in 2023 budget for university revitalisation.
This was disclosed by President Muhammadu Buhari on Friday while presenting the 2023 proposed budget before the joint session of the National Assembly.
TFunding for the revitalisation of public universities is among the demands of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), which has been on strike since February.
Buhari has presented a N20.15 trillion proposed for 2023 fiscal year.
The president also renewed his appeal to university lecturers to show a better appreciation of the country’s current economic situation and return to the classroom.
He said universities must find means of funding instead of solely relying on government budget.
ASUU is demanding N1.2 trillion for university revitalization in the first quarter of 2023.
However, the federal government had earlier proposed N150 billion for the quarter which the academics rejected.
