President Muhammadu Buhari says as the military Head of State in the early 80s his government sent many corrupt people to prison before he was also booted out in a coup led by General Ibrahim Babangida.
Buhari said this on Thursday during an interview with Arise Television at the Presidential Villa Abuja.
He said though it had not been easy for his administration to fight corruption since the last six years, it had succeeded in easing out corrupt public officials without making noise about it.
Buhari expressed concern over the rate of corruption at the local government level which he said was being perpetrated by the governors whom he accused of starving local governments of funds.
“In a situation where N300 million is allocated to local government and they are given N100 million is not fair,” Buhari said.
