The Archbishop of Jos Catholic Archdiocese, Mathew Audu, has advised Nigerians to have the fear of God and be honest in their dealings at all times.
Audu gave the advice during his homily on Tuesday at the opening mass for the 2022 General Assembly of the archdiocese with the theme, ”The Eucharist our Strength Towards a Better Nigeria,” in Jos.
The prelate attributed challenges currently facing Nigeria to bad leadership at all levels.
“In Nigeria today we are in a bleak despair, nothing seems to be working; everything seems to be going wrong.
“Our universities are closed for months, insecurity everywhere and our politicians are busy carting away public funds. All these boils down to the lack of honesty and fear of God among us’’, he said.
The archbishop said it was not enough for Christians to go to church and pray or take the holy communion, but to also show honesty and allow the fear of God to guide them so Nigeria will be better.
In the 2023 general elections, The Archbishop advised Nigerians to vote for credible and honest persons who have the fear of God.
He also called on Nigerians to be wary of desperate politicians who do not have the interest of the nation and the people at heart.
”As 2023 draws closer, we must be careful of the antics of desperate politicians who want to take advantage of every situation for their personal gain.”
