The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has declared the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for Abuja South Federal Constituency, Alhaji Abdulrahman Ajiya, as winner of the Feb. 25 House of Representatives election.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Abuja South Federal Constituency consists of Abaji, Kwali, Gwagwalada and Kuje area councils.
Ajiya, who is the immediate past Chairman of Abaji Area Council, defeated the incumbent, Alhaji Hassan Sokodabo of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who sought a second term.
The INEC Returning Officer, Prof. Wasiu Gabadeen, who declared the result, said that Ajiya of the APC scored 51,502 votes to beat his closest rival of the PDP, Sokodabo, who got 47,376 votes.
He said “after receiving votes and analysed all the results, I, Prof. Wasiu O. Gabadeen, the INEC Returning Officer for the Abuja South Constituency election declared Abdulrahman Ajiya of the APC.
“Having satisfied the requirements of the law, he is hereby declared winner and returned elected,” he said.
