In the ongoing All Progressives Congress (APC) primary elections for the National Assembly (NASS) nationwide, Senate President Godswill Akpabio, Deputy President of the Senate, Jibrin Barau, Senate Leader Opeyemi Bamidele have secured the party’s tickets to contests the Senatorial election in 2027.
Sitting governors, Hope Uzodinma of Imo, Inuwa Yahaya of Gombe, Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq of Kwara and Dapo Abiodun of Ogun, also clinched their tickets.
Other winners include former governor Ramalan Yero who picked the Kaduna North senatorial zone ticket.
Senator Shehu Sani won the Kaduna Central Senatorial District, polling 9,105 votes to emerge winner of the APC primary election.
The Returning Officer, Samira Jibrin, announced that Yusuf Zailani scored 1,021 votes, while Shettima Yerima, who withdrew from the race, garnered 1,253 votes.
Similarly, Senator Sunday Marshall Katung picked the APC Kaduna South Senatorial District primary election after defeating former Senator Danjuma Tella Laah and Michael Ayuba Auta.
Other results showed that Senator Adams Oshiomhole secured the Edo North ticket unopposed for 2nd term.
The immediate past governor of Delta State, Ifeanyi Okowa, scored 4,462 votes to snatch the ticket from serving Senator Ned Nwoko, who got only three votes in the senatorial primary in Ward 9, Okpanam, Delta North.
Incumbent Senator Ede Dafinone retained his Delta Central Senatorial District, seat after defeating former Deputy Senate President, Ovie Omo-Agege.
He scored 116,252 votes to beat Omo-Agege who scored 3,643 votes across the eight local government that make up the district.
More results from Kebbi State showed that former governor and also a serving Senator Adamu Aliero, as well as Senators Abdullahi Yahaya and Jafar Muhammad Gajere retained their ticket through consensus for Kebbi Central, Kebbi North and Kebbi South respectively.
In Borno State, the three sitting senators from Borno State – Ali Ndume (Borno South), Senate Chief whip, Mohammed Tahir Monguno (Borno North), and Kala Shehu Lawan, SAN, (Borno Central) were unopposed at the primary election held in Maiduguri, Borno State capital.
Governor Dapo Abiodun of Ogun State was declared winner of the primary for the Ogun East Senatorial District after his main challenger, senator Otunba Gbenga Daniel, pulled out of the race on Sunday night.
For Ogun West, a former member of the House of Representatives for Ado-Odo/Ota Federal Constituency, Jimoh Ojugbele, won the APC senatorial candidate after his challengers, including the Deputy Governor, Engr. Noimot Salako-Oyedele, withdrew from the race.
Sitting Senator, Shuaib Afolabi Salisu, emerged as the APC candidate, defeating other contestants for Ogun Central.
Orji Uzor Kalu also clinched the ticket for Abia North Senatorial District, with a wide margin over his lone challenger, Philip Nto.
Senate Leader, Michael Opeyemi Bamidele was affirmed by his party for another term to represent Ekiti Central Senatorial District, in Ekiti State.
Equally, Senator Yemi Adaramodu, representing Ekiti South Senatorial District, who is also seeking re-election, expressed optimism that his people will support him to victory. He maintained that his representation had made significant impact and added values to the wellbeing of the people.
21st CENTURY CHRONICLE reports that the elections in many centers were inconclusive following disagreements over the method to use and late arrival of materials for the polls.
Winners were those whose election were decided through consensus arrangements and those who submitted to the contests through direct primaries, polling the highest figures just as
many contestants withdrew from the race.
The election would drag into Tuesday as others were not cleared by the screening committee of the party while there were those who lost out in the selection of consensus candidates and those who submitted to voting but still lost after the exercise.
