Residents of Karu, Naynya in the FCT on Friday went through hardship getting to their various destinations following the blockade of the Eagle Square, venue of the National Convention of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
All the routes leading from different directions of the FCT had been blocked with stern looking and arms wielding soldiers with police men diverting both motorists and pedestrians away from the venue.
A motorist Aliyu Jumbo coming from the eastern direction to the FCT who did not know of the blockade, expressed sadness with the development, saying “this is unfair.”
He questioned the blockade “how can they block people’s passage simply because the APC is holding its national convention at the Eagle Square?
They ought to have notified the people before doing this like this. Now see how people are finding it difficult to get to their destinations.
A pedestrian whose dress was soaked in sweat who simply gave his name as Peter condemned the blockade. “Tt shows the insensitivity of this government for the citizens; welfare and feelings.”

The newspaper reports that transport fare had gone up following the hike in fuel prices caused by the ongoing Gulf War between the US with Israel and Iran.
With today’s blockade, motorists coming from the Nyanya-Mararaba axis now disembark their passengers at the west end of the Federal Ministry of Finance in the Central Area. The distance now attracts N1200 as against the 800 or 700 naira they use to pay even up to Berger Roundabout in Utako District.
Those moving further to places like Lugbe, Airport Road and Berger Round about are made to pay at least N1000
The Federal Government has directed civil servants working within the Federal Secretariat in Abuja to work from home on Friday, March 27, 2026, ahead of the APC convention
Permanent Secretary, Service Welfare Office, for the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, Abdul Garba, gave the directive in a circular which said access roads leading to and around the Federal Secretariat Complex, Phases I, II and III, will be closed from Friday, March 27, to Saturday, March 28, 2026.
It said the decision bas because the Eagle Square would be used as venue for the APC national convention and asked workers in the affected offices to stay off-site on the specified day.
“Accordingly, all personnel whose offices are located within Phases I, II and III of the Federal Secretariat Complex as well as the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, are to work from home on Friday, 27th March, 2026,” it added.
The government also directed heads of ministries, departments, and agencies to ensure compliance.
