The supporters of the People’s Democratic Party National Secretary, Senator Samuel Anyanwu, and Sunday Udo-Okoye, on Wednesday clashed at the National Executive Committee (NEC) Hall venue of the ongoing 79th Board of Trustees meeting.
The fracas started after Anyanwu’s loyalists who were already seated in the hall, drew the Ahmed Makarfi-led BoT Secretariat to Udo-Okoye’s presence, and demanded that Udo-Okoye should leave because he was not a member of the board.
Immediately, an aide of Anyanwu, Emmanuel Okoronkwo rough handled and forcefully removed Udo-Okoye out of the hall.
The situation got ugly as Ude-Okoye who was at this time outside the hall, beckoned on his supporters standing outside, tried to scale the Secretariat fence to force their principal back into the hall but they were stopped by the armed security operatives.
The operatives’ intervention saved the situation and the 79th BoT meeting continuedd.
Earlier, Anyanwu arrived first and sat on the high table alongside the BoT Chairman, Senator Adolphus Wabara and Acting National Chairman of the PDP, Umar Damagun.
Udo-Okoye came into the hall at exactly 12:02 pm and sat at the extreme end of the high table and remained there through the opening ceremony.
The BoT Chairman, Senator Wabara, told the gathering to set aside personal interests and unite the party in the interest of Nigerians.
Also, Damagum said party leaders were fueling the crisis in the PDP, and urged everyone to sacrifice for the party’s survival.
