When Tyson Fury’s fight with Oleksandr Usyk was canceled, Anthony Joshua did not “sit around and wait” to start talking to him.
On Wednesday, Usyk’s team announced that negotiations with Fury over a heavyweight unification match at Wembley on April 29 had broken down. Eddie Hearn, Fury’s promoter, then disclosed that he was seeking to restart talks with Joshua about an all-British fight later this year. Joshua, though, is not interested in further drawn-out negotiations after twice before failing to reach an agreement on the parameters of a bout, most recently at the conclusion of last year. He pulled out of the fight because of his legal dispute with [Deontay] Wilder, Joshua said. “I was supposed to fight him before I fought Usyk, the first time,” Joshua said.
