The Minister of Labour and Employment, Dr Chris Ngige and Charles Soludo, the Governorship Candidate of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) in the going governorship election in Anambra on Saturday couldn’t get their accreditation done on time for voting following the breakdown of the Bimodal Verification Accreditation (BVA) system.
Ngige waited for hours while electoral officials battled to get the technology working for the process to commence at his Alor Ward polling unit in the Idemili South Local Government Area of the state.
However, despite the anomaly, the minister vowed he would wait to exercise his franchise.
”I have been here for over an hour without success. I’m not impressed.
“The failure rate is between 25 to 30 percent. This is not encouraging. INEC ought not to pack its equipment after each election. They should have tested their machine a week before the elections in a mock trial,” he said.
At the at the Polling Unit 002, Ward 13, at Ofiyi Square, Isuofia in Aguata Local Government Area, Soludo could not be captured by the BVA system.
He lamented, “This BVA technology is a complete failure, and by almost 1 p.m. in the day, voting is yet to start in most of the polling units in the state.
“With this crowd, even if the device starts working now, it is not possible to finish up within record time.
“It raises fundamental questions because I’m quite shocked to hear that this technology breakdown is happening all over the state.”
