It is election day in Anambra State, and 18 political parties and candidates are in the governorship race.
Voting is expected to commence across 21 local government areas comprising 5,000 polling units.
There are 2.5 million registered voters and 5,720 polling in the state, but voting won’t take place in 86 due to inevitability of registered voters in the units.
21st CENTURY CHRONICLE gathered that as at 8:20 am, Military personnel had mount a checkpoint along the Ozubulu road in Nnewi.
At the polling unit of of one of the governorship candidates, Senator Andy Uba in Ugah, Aguata local governmentarea, electoral officials and security personnel are yet to arrive at the venue of the election as at 8:11 am
While by 8:30 am electoral officials were seen preparing for the exercise in some part of the state, such as polling unit 10, Amawbia I, located within the premises of the Community Primary School, Amawbia in Awka.
There are palpable fear in the state due to insecurity occasioned by the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), which has in recent time attacked and kill security personnel and destroyed government infrastructure.
It has also killed many indigenes of South East who had dared its sit-at-home order.
Although, the secessionist group had said it would not prevent resident of Anabra State from voting in the election, 21st CENTURY CHRONICLE gathered that the major roads in the state had been deserted, as people have remained in their homes.
Analysts had earlier said there would be voter apathy during the election due to the fear of IPOB.
