Three female aspirants are taking part in the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA)’s primary election in Awka, Anambra State ahead of the November 6 governorship election in the state.
21st CENTURY CHRONICLE reports that the women were among the 16 aspirants screened by the party ahead of the primary slated for Wednesday.
The female aspirants are Mrs. Chidi Onyemelukwe, daughter of late former Vice President, Alex Ekwueme and deputy governorship candidate of the party in the 2017 election, Mrs. Genevieve Ekwochi, a former Commissioner in the state and serving Senator Uche Ekwunife.
The other aspirants vying for the ticket include Chuma Nzeribe; Chris Azubogu, a member of the House of Representatives; Val Ozigbo, immediate past president of Transnational Corporation, also known as Transcorp and Dr. Obiora Okonkwo, billionaire businessman and owner of the United Nigeria Airlines.
Also contesting include Dr Godwin Maduka, billionaire owner of Las Vegas Paint Institute; Mr Godwin Ezeemo, famous businessman and investor; and Senator Ugochukwu Uba.
Others are Johnny Maduafokwa, a technocrat and oil engineer, Tony Nwoye, a former lawmaker, Winston Udeh, a United States-based Attorney, Emeka Etiaba, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria and son of former Deputy Governor of Anambra State, Dame Virgy Etiaba, Walter Okeke a businessman and Ifedi Okwenna a former Commissioner in the state.
The state publicity secretary of the party, Nnamdi Nwangwu said arrangements have been concluded for the primary that is expected to produce the party’s flag bearer in the governorship election.
“We have booked Marble Arch, Prof Akunyili Women’s Development Centre and Dr Alex Ekwueme Square, hoping that whichever the national representatives of the party choose, we will use.”
National Publicity Secretary of the party Tex Okechukwu told the 21st CENTURY CHRONICLE that despite the challenges encountered by the party ahead of today’s primary, all arrangements to ensure a hitch-free primary have been put in place.
He said the APGA will retain Anambra State, adding that “there is no party that can stop APGA. Governor Willy Obiano has performed creditably well to the satisfaction of the people of Anambra State, so we are confident the citizens will return APGA so that the state will continue to enjoy the good work from the party’s manifesto.”
