E-commerce giant Amazon has announced it would temporarily put a stop to hiring more employees due to an uncertain and challenging economy.
This is according to the note shared with workers on Wednesday and published on Thursday.
Amazon executive Beth Galetti said that the company decided to pause on new incremental hires in its corporate workforce.
It said this was due to an uncertain economy and in light of how many people we had hired in the last few years.
Galetti said that the hiring freeze would likely remain in place for the next few months.
It clarified that the company would in most cases, continue to fill vacant positions and, in some targeted places, increase the headcount.
Amazon employed some 1.5 million people worldwide.
