A World Bank funded project, Adolescent Girls Initiative for Learning and Empowerment (AGILE), Zamfara office, has equipped 38 skills acquisition centers in the state.
Hajiya Binta DanGusau, the Second Chance Education Officer, Zamfara AGILE Office, disclosed this on Monday while handing over the materials to the State Mass Education Board in Zamfara.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that items presented are skills acquisition learning materials worth N619 million to 38 skills acquisition centers for training of adolescent girls across the state.
DanGusau said the essence of providing the materials was to enhance the capacity of skills acquisition centers in the state.
“This support is to facilitate the training of 2,250 adolescent girls and young women across the 38 centers to gain second chance education opportunities.
“This is also to enhance second leaning education opportunities.
“The items procured at the cost of N619 million comprised refrigerators, computers, electric and gas cooking materials, phone repairs and tailoring services equipments, hair dressing, and fashion design materials among others.
“We are presenting these items to the state Mass Education Board for proper distribution across all the 38 centers across the state,” DanGusau revealed.
Also speaking, the State Coordinator, Zamfara AGILE Office, Hajiya Sa’adatu Abdu-Gusau said the second chance education is one of the sub-components of AGILE project.
“This is part of Gov. Dauda Lawal administration’s policies to shape and promote the future of adolescent girls and other vulnerable young women in the state.
“This is expected to boost the capacity of skills acquisition centers in the state to train adolescent girls into various vocational skills.
“I am using this medium to call on the management of the board and leadership of the 38 benefiting centers across the state to ensure proper utilisation of the items,” she pleaded.
Receiving the items, the Executive Secretary Zamfara Mass Education Board, Hajiya Zuwaira Abdu-Gusau described the gesture as highly commendable.
“We are very grateful with this kind intervention through AGILE project.
“I want to extend appreciation to Gov. Dauda Lawal’s administration for priorotising mass education development in the state,” she said.
The executive secretary assured that the materials would be put to proper use in all the centers.
She also commended the AGILE project for renovation projects in all centers prior to the presentation of the learning materials.
