Spokesperson for the Afghan government announced on Monday that Afghanistan exported fresh pomegranates to Russia via Torghundi port in western Herat province for the first time.
Zabihullah Mujahid posted on his social media platform X that “this process will create substantial market for fruits, particularly pomegranates, thereby driving further advancements in the country’s export sector.”
Afghanistan’s principal exports of fresh and dried fruits have primarily been directed to Pakistan. But recent border tensions between the two countries have entirely disrupted this trade flow.
Meanwhile, Afghanistan has significantly bolstered its exports to Central Asian countries, including Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, and Turkmenistan. (Xinhua/NAN)
