Super Eagles coach Eric Chelle, said he will met out an internal disciplinary measures against Victor Osimhen who raged at his colleague Ademola Lookman in Monday’s walloping of Eagles’ opponents the Mambas of Mozambique at Fes Stadium at the ongoing AFCON 2025.
Osimhen had charged at fellow striker Lookman in the second half of the encounter at the stage Nigeria was leading by three goals.
Chelle, however, did not say the type of punishment he will met out, adding that “what happened on the pitch will stay in the group. I don’t need to tell you what will happen, I keep that to me.”
The former Atlanta goal poacher, however, played down the on-field fracas, saying he more interested in the team’s results than individual events.
Nigeria’s crushing of Mozambique 4-0 overshadowed the clash.
Osimhen had charged at Lookman, accusing the later of refusing to pass the ball in the 63rd minute. prompting a fit of rage from the former Napoli striker.
Osimhen was caught on camera yelling “no try am again”.
Lookman who scored once, provided two assists and named man of the match, said after the match that the incident is a regular occurrence in football, adding that the player and team remain hungry as they push on to the next game towards AFCON success.
He said “Victor is our number one guy. He’s a top striker, vital to us.
“Moments like that happen, but they don’t change our togetherness. I play for the badge and my teammates; assists or goals, the team comes first. Victor’s hunger drives us; we understand each other and keep pushing. We stay calm, respect decisions, and focus on the next game.”
However, 26-year-old Osimhen requested to be substituted and he was substituted with Moses Simon.
